Slender: The Arrival

Slender: The Arrival is a full release of the popular Slender: Eight Pages game which seemed to appear out of nowhere and start scaring anyone that played it. Slender is a first person horror game which uses it's atmosphere to scare players with dark settings, loud noises and the flashing of the screen. Slender: The Arrival is currently only available on PC however a port to console is in the works and should be done by the end of 2014, this means both PS and Xbox will get their share of what the game offers.

Slender: The Arrival has the player take the role of Lauren whose friend Kate has gone missing for reasons unknown. In an attempt to find her the player begins the story by finding Kate's house that is filled with drawings of Slender man and notes much like the original game. The player is armed only with a flashlight and must make their way through 5 chapters all with various events which build up to the ending of the game of which there are 3 endings (On the Steam version) based on the difficulty you play at.

Slender: The Arrival is an amped up version of the original Slender game that showcases nice graphics, HD sound (just to scare you more) and a story to go with it. The story while not very enticing allows the game to place you in dark open areas in which the player instantly feels fear building along with the dreary sounds and loud occasional bangs the settings are a real masterpiece. The original concept of the eight pages is incorporated into the game at chapter 2 and again in an extra level added in a 1.3 update, so if you wish to replay that chapter just for the eight pages experience on better graphics then that is something that is completely possible. The game offers a new experience even if you are a true veteran of first person horror games.

After having put hours into the original game, to go into the full adaptation and still jump in fear is amazing, I knew that some parts were coming based on my previous experience but there are new things just to get that little bit more fear out of you. Along with Outlast this is probably a game i would not want to play on my own in the dark. For anyone who hasn't played a first person horror game before I envy you, but you should definitely give it a try even if only once. Slender: Eight Pages is a great start and is available for free.

Due to it's ability to scare, even after playing the original along with nice graphics, the ability to create an atmosphere that even previous players would jump at and a story that add a little life to the series. I will give Slender: The Arrival an 8/10. It would be a 9 but it lost a point for making me have to change my pants... On a side note if anyone has played this with Oculus Rift and survived, then you are a true trooper.

Gameplay: 8/10

Graphics: 7/10

Overall Scare Factor: 9/10

Overall: 8/10
