Battlefield 4 is a First Person Military Shooter, released October 2013. The singleplayer is based around the character "Recker" a member of the games primary squad and later team leader which opens up new functionalities for the player which include giving commands to the rest of the team.

The main story is set in 2020 with USA and Russia on the brink of war (as per most Military FPS) China also play a big part in the game as they are allied with Russia. Players will find themselves using Jeeps, Tanks and boats to get around the semi open world. (I say semi because some of the levels have an open world element which gives players the opportunity to use the vehicles.) The missions are linear with most objectives being "Get to point A" "blow up such and such" and the singleplayer campaign suffered an onslaught of criticism on release due to its "Unfinished" feeling and some bugs, while not being game breaking, did break the wall between immersed play to at some points thinking, "What the hell?". However like all Battlefield games the main focus was of course the multiplayer which as per previous games included large maps, a multitude of vehicles and a new feature of dynamic maps in which some of the maps can change as the battles rage on, such as one map in particular which has a capture point at the top a large skyscraper. This skyscraper can be brought down to make the capture point more accessible for the enemy team. As in the previous Battlefield 3 there are still aircraft such as helicopters and jets and a new feature of the AC-130 Gunship. Although the multiplayer suffered from bugs in the initial release these problems have mostly been sorted with frequent updates, the main problem is staying connected due to the number of players in a game, the connection can be jumpy at the best of times (EA aren't known for their stable servers). The main change to the multiplayer is the addition of the commander option which can control the tide of the battle using various support activity which includes passing intelligence to the players on the ground and calling in airstrikes and artillery to secure victory. However there is a catch and in order to be a commander during a multiplayer match you cannot take part other than your supporting roles so you are not actually on the ground and also you will be required to be a certain level in your multiplayer career. Graphically this game is one of the best shooters out (if we forget the lazy textures used in some of the singleplayer, such as half a barrel) The multiplayer is more action realistic based, if you are into short arcade type multiplayer matches go play Call of Duty because some Battlefield matches i have known to last hours if they are to a point limit with no time limit.

If i was to rate the game purely on the multiplayer i would give the game a 9 easily however seen as I have to rate the game with the single player included I will give Battlefield 4 a 8/10 due to the singleplayer being "Okay".

Single Player Experience:

Gameplay: 4/10

Graphics: 8/10

Overall Game Experience: 5/10

Total Rating: 5.5/10

Online Experience:

Gameplay: 9/10

Graphics: 8.5/10

Overall Game Experience: 8/10

Total Rating: 9.5/10
