"Destiny is the Halo: MMO" - Bungie
22.July.2014
So Destiny Developer Bungie have stated that "Destiny is very much Halo: The MMO" with the beta available and people already getting into the game is the fact Destiny is more or less Halo a good or bad thing? It has been said that Bungie shouldn't "throw away the lessons they learned creating a series that became the flagship for Xbox" which is true Halo undoubtedly became the flagship for Xbox if you couldn't tell from their E3 conference.
However some reviewers have said that it would be stupid to create a completely different type of game after creating Halo because to use their words "creating Gran Turismo and then creating a fantasy Warlock game would be stupid." Now i'm not one to argue with anyone, but i'm just going to point out that Crash Bandicoot, that platform-er which had you running around a cute little Bandicoot breaking boxes and wearing masks and trying to stop evil Dr. Cortex. If anything a child's game if ever i have seen one. Possibly one of the best PS1 games but a child's game non the less. Now we shoot forward 15 years to find Crash Bandicoot developers Naughty Dog have made a new game, another cute little animal based plat-former? No, they have created possibly one of the best PS3 exclusives known to man, The last Of US. Yes, Crash Bandicoot is the same brain child as The Last Of Us, but of course they are stupid for not using all the lessons they learned creating Crash. Another good example is Rockstar creating Lemmings and then deciding they wanted to create Grand Theft Auto, I can see the similarities.
The trend is, game companies that evolve and are not just 1 trick ponies produce better quality games, now i'm not saying Destiny won't be good. All i am saying is to say yourself that Destiny is an MMO Halo is ridiculous, you're branding yourselves as a company that can only create 1 type of game. In my personal opinion, Bungie should come out next year and develop Viva Pinata 2, although master chief might make an appearance and shoot Horstchio in the face with his Battle Rifle.
On another note i look forward to trying the full release of Destiny and hopefully it wont be like playing Halo, but only time will tell. Thanks for reading and may i welcome you to the ProGamers Website.
